Cheyenne, WY ZIP Codes

Four ZIP codes cover the city and each one behaves like a different housing market. Here is what 82001, 82007, 82009 and 82005 actually mean when you are shopping for a home.

The Short Answer

Cheyenne has four ZIP codes that matter

82001 is central and west, 82007 is south, 82009 is north and northeast, and 82005 is F.E. Warren Air Force Base. You will also see 82003, 82006, 82008 and 82010 on paperwork — those are post office box and non-delivery codes, not neighborhoods, so no house is actually located in them.

82001

Central & west Cheyenne

The oldest part of the city. 82001 covers downtown, the Capitol district, the historic neighborhoods west of Central Avenue and out toward Happy Jack Road. Housing runs from turn-of-the-century brick and bungalows near downtown to mid-century ranches further west, with a handful of newer infill builds. This is where you look if you want walkability, character and mature trees rather than a new subdivision.

82007

South Cheyenne

South of the rail yard and out toward the south county line. 82007 is generally the most affordable side of Cheyenne, with post-war and 1970s–90s housing stock, larger lots on the outskirts, and easy access to I-25 and I-80 for anyone commuting toward Colorado. It also picks up some of the county acreage south of town.

82009

North & northeast Cheyenne

Where most of the city's newer construction has gone. 82009 covers the north side subdivisions — Saddle Ridge, Whitney Ranch, Buffalo Ridge, Sweetgrass, The Pointe — plus the retail corridor along Dell Range Boulevard and the medical campus. If you are relocating and want a house built in the last twenty years, you are almost certainly shopping in 82009.

82005

F.E. Warren Air Force Base

A dedicated ZIP code for F.E. Warren AFB on the west edge of town. Housing here is base housing rather than open-market resale, but it matters for buyers: many of Mary's clients are arriving on PCS orders and deciding between on-base housing and buying off base with a VA loan.

Choosing Between Them

Which side of town is right for you?

If you are commuting to the base, the west side of 82001 and the north edge of 82009 both work well. If you are relocating from the Front Range and want a newer build with a garage that fits actual vehicles, start in 82009. If your budget is the deciding factor, 82007 will give you the most square footage per dollar. And if you want acreage, a shop building or room for horses, you are looking at the county codes rather than a city ZIP at all.
